Rima XIII.
Rhyme XIII. How blue your eyes are...
How blue your eyes are, and when you laugh
How their soft clarity reminds me
Of the tremulous shine of morning
The sea reflects upon its waters.
How blue your eyes are, and when you cry
How the crystal tears that well up in them
seem to me the drops of dew
That collect upon a violet.
How blue your eyes are, and how their depths
Can radiate an idea like a point of light,
How much they seem to me a lost star
In the evening sky! Oh!
Translated by Richard Haney-Jardine
YOU LAUGH, AND IN YOUR EYES OF BLUE...
ResponderEliminarYou laugh, and in your eyes of blue
Its suave clear light recalls to me
The shimmering splendor of dawn, anew
Reflected in the sea.
You weep, and in your eye of blue
The clarid tears that are in it
Appear to me like drops of dew
Upon a violet.
Your eye is blue, and when a thought
Shines in its depth like pointed light,
In heaven meseems a lost star caught,
Ere yet it be not night.
Translated by Fleming Bremner
RHYME XIII. YOUR EYES ARE BLUE...
ResponderEliminarYour eyes are blue, and when you laugh,
their smooth clarity reminds me
of the tremulous brilliance of the morning
reflected in the sea.
Your eyes are blue, and when you cry,
the transparent tears in them
I fancy are drops of dew
on a violet.
Your eyes are blue, and if in their depths
an idea glimmers like a point of light
it seems to me, in the afternoon sky,
a lost star!
Translated by Howard A. Landman
RHYME XIII. THINE EYE IS BLUE...
ResponderEliminarThine eye is blue, and when thou laugh'st,
Its gentle light recalls to me
The morning's tremulous brilliancy
Reflected in the sea.
Thine eye is blue and when thou weep'st,
The shining tears thine eye that wet
Seem to me like the drops of dew
Upon a violet.
Thine eye is blue, and when a thought
Illuming in its depths doth lie,
It sees a lost and wandering star
Within the evening sky.
Translated by Owen Innsly
RHYME XIII. BLUE IS YOUR PUPIL...
ResponderEliminarBlue is your pupil and whene'er you smile
Its softened clarity recalls to me
The trembling radiance of the morning, while
Its splendors are reflected in the sea.
Blue is your pupil and whene'er you weep
Transparent tears, like dainty jewels set
Appear to me, as they unbidden creep,
Like drops of dew upon a violet.
Blue is your pupil and when I descry
Like points of light, ideas radiate
Within its depth, it seems to scintillate
Like some lost pleiad in the evening sky.
Translated by Jules Renard
RHYME XIII. YOUR EYES ARE BLUE...
ResponderEliminarYour eyes are blue, and when you laugh
Their clearness doth recall to me
The tremulous effulgence of the dawn
Reflected in the sea.
Your eyes are blue, and when you weep
The drops in them, transparent, wet,
To me resemble tears of early dew
Upona a violet.
Your eyes are blue; when in their deeps
Some fancy gleams, as if afar
A point of light, it seems in evening's sky
I see a shooting star!
Translated by Young Allison
RHYME XIII. YOUR EYES ARE BLUE...
ResponderEliminarYour eyes are blue, and when you laugh
Their clearness seems to be
The tremulous shimmer of the dawn
Reflected on the sea.
Blue are your eyes, and when you weep
The tears film o'er the blue
Till they have the look of violets
Freshly bathed in dew.
Your eyes are blue, within their depths
Sparkles a flashing ray,
A thought - as if in evening sky
Shone a start astray!
Translated by Alice Jane McVan
