Rima LXIV. Como guarda el avaro su tesoro...
Como guarda el avaro su tesoro,
guardaba mi dolor;
le quería probar que hay algo eterno
a la que eterno me juró su amor.
Mas hoy le llamo en vano y oigo al tiempo
que le agotó, decir:
“¡Ah, barro miserable, eternamente
no podrás ni aun sufrir!
Rhyme LXIV. As a miser guards his treasure...
As a miser guards his treasure,
I guarded my pain;
I wanted to prove there was something as eternal
as the eternal love she swore to me.
But today I call in vain and hear the time
that has passed, say:
"Ah, miserable mud, eternally
you will not be able even to suffer!"
